Since the beginning of the western Americas Capuchin mission, the friars have always been involved in education ministry. The founding of St. Lawrence of Brindisi school, located in the inner city of Watts, California, back in 1924 is a good example of the friar’s desire to share the joy of knowledge to the people they minister to. Not long after, in 1927, Our Lady of Angels School in Burlingame, CA was opened with the help of the Sisters of Mercy. Seeking to open a minor seminary for aspirants to the Order, the friars purchased a former country club in 1946 which became St. Francis High School, an all boys college preparatory school, in La Cañada, CA.
